Pounding the Naira

Well… we can't say we weren’t warned…

Hi guys, it's been a minute. So,as Nigerians, the past few months have been crazy. From the Shambolic elections (INEC Bastards) to Tinubu becoming a selected president to the removal of subsidy(rightfully so but horrible implementation) to our fucking NASS members to the tanking of the economy and finally ladies and gentlemen, our Naira doing very well in the Olympic diving events and taking a nose plunge into the deep end. As of time of publishing this, One British pound could get you about 1100 naira and that is using official channels.

Wait.. what????

As someone who earns in pounds at the moment, I’m seriously torn between bursting out crying or jumping for joy.

But seriously. What the absolute fuck!!

Things are terribly tough back home at this time and its honestly heartbreaking. You speak to your folks back home and get this sense of despondency about how things are turning out and get this feeling of dread all over your chest. The worst part is that there’s only so much you can do about it. Sending money regularly is the easy part but that’s all we can do right now.

Truth is, even with all the advantages of living in a saner society, there’s still so much to be done, and a whole lot of financial ish to get yourself settled properly in order to be able to help. My school year is gradually coming to an end and the next stages are fast approaching… we need to get visa status sorted out asap and that is no easy feat as well. The minimum wage, 20 hour/week jobs can only be sufficient for sorting out bills and maintaining a living right now, saving is difficult…and so on and so forth.

Mahn..I’m tired

But then, I remember whats going on back home and reflect on how lucky I am. At the very least, we can even afford to send money home comfortably. Last I checked, my weekly shift wage is equivalent to some people’s entire monthly wage back home. Gaddemn.

May God save us.
